Plan for a sober ride home
For Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, the Wyandot County Safe Communities Coalition, and local law enforcement are teaming up to remind drivers: Fans don’t let fans drive drunk.
Get ahead of the game and create a plan for a sober ride home from Super Bowl parties now. Those who plan to host a party should plan for plenty of food and non-alcoholic drink options for sober guests, especially those who are designated drivers. Those given the responsibility of designated driver should be the night’s MVP and keep that commitment front and center.
“The Super Bowl is a special night each year for Wyandot County to come together to celebrate, but we need responsible, sober drivers on our roads,” Safe Communities Coordinator Callan McMillion said. “If alcohol is part of the game plan for Super Bowl LIX, make sure your playbook includes a safe and sober ride for yourself and anyone who is joining you.”
Drunk driving can have a range of consequences, including the possibility of causing a traumatic crash. Wyandot County is a tight knit community, so for this year’s Super Bowl celebration, the Wyandot County Safe Communities Coalition is encouraging teamwork in keeping roadways safe with these tips:
- Host a winning party: Remind guests to designate sober drivers in advance and provide ample food and non-alcoholic drinks for all guests, and especially those who are driving. Remember that a person who serves alcohol to minors may be liable for damage, injury, or death caused by an underage, impaired driver.
- Be the DD MVP: Designated drivers are the night’s MVPs. The responsibility of providing a safe ride home should be respected. Assist friends in getting home safe and take keys from those who are considering driving after drinking.
- Call an audible: Drivers who find themselves unable to drive home should give their keys to a sober driver. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, the consequences of not doing so are not worth saving face.
- Report unsportsmanlike conduct: If impaired drivers are seen on Wyandot County roadways call law enforcement to report them – it could save lives.
